Our third Episode is all about the power of a red lip. Or even just a bold lip, either way - it makes a statement.
Last Episode we talked about some news that seemed to take over our news feed - The Death of Karl Lagerfeld. As we bid farewell to his misogynistic messages and body shaming, we also went over a few mascaras beginning our “Mascara Madness” for March. Be sure to check out what we review and to #shoptheshow - we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
First things first, the ladies of BTBS are doing a give away! What does that look like? Well, remember all the products that are reviewed, used and talked about? Thats what you’re going to get. It isn’t going to be predictable, it will be random but we promise you, it will contain everything they love.

Speaking of Boxes (and there are so many uses for this term when talking going into this specific one….) Anne Signed up for the “Slut Box” by Amber Rose. It is 18+ BUT we are all about that Body/ Sex Positivity and if you are too, this is definitely something worth checking out!
Anne goes into another curated box by Violet Grey based off of International Women’s day, which this month focuses on women owned business. Be sure to check out the Violet Grey site here.
Our “week in review” starts with Anne’s brief trip to NY and her bizarre trip to (what she thought was) a “Milk Bar” store. Being that it was in a different location, it seemed that they’d expanded. What it REALLY was is an “Experience Center” for kids with a fancy coffee stand carrying Milk Bar’s pastries, needless to say that didn’t last long and to Kat’s disappointment, she did not get ice cream (pssst Kat LOVES the Cereal Milk Ice Cream).
Anne and Kat feel it is necessary to share with the world the Magic of the “Birthday Cake Truffle”. It is something EVERYONE should experience AND to top it all off - Christina Tosi, is the founder and Owner of Milk Bar which means we have one more Boss Babe to rave about!
Anne does a photoshoot with Playstation, and Kat mentions LA Lights (by LA Gear) shoes. Do you remember these? They’re only the best (and the original) light up shoe. Which apparently are NOT only for kids anymore! WHO KNEW?! Thanks Internet!
Anyone from the PNW? Remember that snow we had a month ago that reached almost a foot?
Kat has a client who had to reschedule their photoshoot several times due to the weather. Of course, after a long weekend of sunshine, it snows on the day of their shoot. Climate change isnt real? Uh. Yeah, OK.
SPEAKING OF WOMEN OWNED BUSINESS - Anne and Kat did a BTBS photoshoot for the website on “International Women;s Day” and it couldn’t be more perfect. Both ladies are not too fond of being in front of a camera, but they manage to pull off the #bossbabe look like a pro. Big shout out to our fellow female in small business for capturing the BTBS ladies in their element (at Novelty Hill Januik, sipping Rose’) - Amy Soper Photography! You’re the Best!
Kat had a nightmare Mother of the Bride, so much of a nightmare that a little PSA felt necessary. Check out the Podcast at 14:00 for details. Also, side note: don’t be an elitist asshole to the people working for you. It’s not a good look. Anne and Kat talk about Industry professionals and how they’ve been 9x out of 10 - a horrible experience. NOT always, but most of the time.
MASCARA MADNESS CONT.
The ladies talk Mascaras, trying out a trio of Benefit Mascaras that are available at Ulta in a set of 3 sample sizes. The results were not our favorite, unless you are into Tammy Faye, this was a hard pass.
The power of the Red Lip - A historical journey
RED RED RED - the most controversial color to wear, whether it be a dress, shoes or your lipstick. Red has always been a powerful hue.
Kat goes over the rich history of the red lip, due to the amount of time we have, didn’t go too far into it. But if you’d like to read more, head over to Bustle’s rad article on the History of Red Lipstick!
Kat goes over her favorite reds, one that happens to be a favorite for BOTH Anne and Kat’s.
Rouge D’Armani - “Hollywood”. Anne had a really cool story about her favorite lip by Givenchy and how they decided what to swatch it from.
MAC Cosmetics - “ Russian Red” Famously worn by Kat’s favorite pop-artist of all time.
Coincidentally, Anne and Kat both had shoots this month where they used their favorite shades and formulas of Red Lipstick.
Check out NY Mag’s article of “The 25 Best Red Lipsticks of all time”.
While this was a very lengthy and in depth episode - we did have time to check out some new products for you all to try out.
In true Kat Fashion - she selects a Mask from their favorite skin care store - Kiehl’s!
This is not a moisturizing mask, but a firming mask that you leave on overnight. We all get busy but none of us are too busy to apply a face mask that you leave on overnight! If you are a tad bit dry, Kat recommends being fully moisturized or having skin that isn’t dry when applying this. The Ginger Leaf and Hibiscus Firming Mask definitely firms but doesn’t do much in the way of hydration.
Did you know Kat has curly-ish hair? Meaning, it doesn’t know what it wants to be? Like somedays it’s really curly and others it wants to be wavy and super frizzy. One of the things Kat LOVES is oil and this Ouai Rose & Body Oil does not disappoint. It leaves a soft Rose scent, can be applied to skin as well as your hair, keeping your curls uniform, soft, Killing the frizz and not feeling weighed down. ANOTHER FAV DOUBLE DUTY PRODUCT!
Anne stayed on track with the Red Lip theme and found a neat product from Urban Decay, the “Lo-Fi Lip Mousse”. This is a mousse “powder finish” lip stain that was just released. The finish is soft and fades nicely! Available in 10 different colors online at UD or at Ulta!
A note of caution - be sure to get a brush for application - this product is like a stain and will stick around wherever you apply it or on whatever you apply it with, like your fingers.
Anne’s second pick is the Cos RX Snail Cream, Available at Ulta.com, and also on Amazon.com!
Snail Secretion may seen like a bizarre concept but in the grand scheme of things - it is well known for its healing properties, reducing redness and other skin ailments.
Cox RX 92% Snail Secretion - No scent, feels great on the skin. Anne will report back on how it works with her Cannabis Sativa oil on her redness.
