Last week, Anne and Kat discussed Cruelty Free Beauty, what that looks like and what you should buy! There were a lot of great deals and so much variety! It is wonderful to see brands with the little bunny on the back. If you are interested in finding out which products are cruelty free - go to the PETA Website for more information.
The ladies ventured to the San Juan Islands in WA for a destination wedding at Roche Harbor Resort. Friday was a busy day for Kat, two back to back clients, racing to the ferry dock in gridlock traffic to get there RIGHT before the cut off time. FYI the booth ladies at the terminal are serious. You NEED to get to your ferry no later than a half an hour before your reservation. (Oh yeah, you need a reservation to get on the ferry to these islands)…..or they will not let you on the ferry.
This particular ferry is a bit longer than others, they stop at 2 islands on the way to Roche Harbor, so naturally they have a bar on board and fun was had.
Pro Tip: Make sure if you are doing destination weddings YOU MAKE IT A FUN TIME! What is the point in doing destinations if you cant enjoy it?!
As you may or may not know - in order to get to and from the island you have two options; Ferry or Flight. Ferries take a long time. Anne and Kat had clients were waiting on the mainland, so in order to cut down on time, they chartered a plane over the water. It cut the commute down from 1 hour (not including your half an hour prior arrival time, the long ferry ride and then having to drive to the resort……) to 20 minutes. Go take a listen but for those who maybe these photos will help to paint a clearer picture.
WHY EVEN DRIVE TO THE ISLAND ANYMORE?!
BUT WAIT, THERES MORE!
After a bumpy ride, Anne and Kat jet over to Stanwood to do a “Girls Night In” Event with Lisa Bruce, in her studio. This particular Girls night in, the ladies surprised their best friend with makeup and Hair, AND a boudoir session prior to her bachelorette party! What a fun surprise! To learn more about Lisa and her awesome events - head over to her website.
BTW - being a Makeup Artist is / can be hard, physical work.
Post weekend / wedding hangover is REAL.
The Ladies are BIG fan of natural methods to help ease pain - Cannibis Balm and an epsom salt bath is on the list.
Wildflower CBD Healing Stick - Available online!
Our Week in Review!
Anne talks about gearing up for Trial Runs and Kat has more interesting dating profile/ creative clients! This time with a Tarot Card reader.
Something that came up last week was the subject of “properly cleansing your face”. Anne talks about skin care routines after getting comments from her brides about “challenging skin”. She posted in her stories, on her business page and the comments are crazy! It is not uncommon for folks to think that they are washing their face by just using wipes, but you are WRONG. Listen in on the PSA on how to properly cleanse your face.
Anne is getting ready for her adventure elopement session with the Foxes in Kauai - something that she has honed in on as a niche here in the PNW (and sometimes out of state for destination weddings). Feeling a little “Aloha’d” out at the moment, traveling is fun, but it can be alot of work!
INDIE BEAUTY - WHY WE LOVE IT
Always support other artists! It helps elevate our industry.
Makeup artists know what we all want/ need - not from a consumer stand point but also from a Makeup artist standpoint.
One day we may want to create our own makeup line! You get what you put out into the universe.
Kat starts off with Cozzette Beauty.
Because of the high pigment and her previous experience with the Infinite Foundation palette, the foundations they have to offer are SO GOOD for commercial/ grooming or for anyone who is going to be in high heat/ under lights (performance). All products are cruelty-free and vegan, not to mention, he is a killer makeup artist who we want to support! While in ATL for IMATS, Kat had the chance to chat with him in person, picked up some product to stock her bridal kit and even got a hug!
Speaking of IMATS in ATL, Anne goes into her personal favorite - Danessa Myricks. Kat and Anne had the opportunity to meet her at IMATS, see her demo and were just blown away with the products she has to offer. Danessa has a rich history in the industry, and tests ALL of her products under several light sources to know how the product translates. Just Brillant! She is also just a lovely human, go show her store some love. There is something for everyone! Anne & Kat personally love the Beauty Oil.
Next up? The mother of all makeup artists - Pat McGrath
The full size mothership palates are so incredibly beautiful, but a little bit heavy, so if you are looking for the high pigment payoff, beauty makeup for your kit….be sure to get the smaller palates here.
Kat LOVES lipsticks, and Pat’s are no exception the pigment and stay power are there, without the drones. Back when Anne and Kat began this podcast, they had both purchased the lips (before trying the eyeshadow). Little did they know they’d be obsessed!
Charlotte Tilbury is right up there - selling her brand in large stores like Nordstrom. Anne talks about her favorite powder that she personally uses and keeps in her kit. Kat fumbles through her personal makeup bag to talk about a particular lipstick and raves about the cream shadow that lives in her purse. Anne just purchased a new eye shadow quad that is to die for - “Pillow Talk”. Classic Anne tone, a pinky nude!
SPEAKING OF INDIE BRANDS - Another indie brand happens to be a Beauty Tips & Bullshit Sponsor!
WE LOVE THEM! Carry alot of their products in our kits. Be sure to AtomicBeautyCosmetics. com - add the code “Beauty Tips” in your code for a 10% discount!
We are doing a giveaway - go to our socials on Instagram for details on how to win!
What are we giving away?
PinUp Pout Nude Lip Trio - Special Edition - Sabina Kelley - $50.00 Value
(Which Anne and Kat happen to BOTH be wearing in this photo) - See? It looks good on everyone.
Anne ends up finding a beautiful new palate in Nordstrom when she was out shopping in the CT section. Too Faced - Natural Lust palatte. A TOTAL impulse buy!
The package is so pretty - Anne is using this as a bridal staple this year!
Kat tries out the Sketch Marker liquid eyeliner (which she gave to her client since you cant sanitize the felt tip afterward). This brand was created by makeup artists who had worked in the business for years, and in the late 90’s decided to do their own thing and create a fun, new makeup line! The felt tip was great, didnt get “wiggly” and the liner did.not.move.
